Football (soccer)- The Interesting History Considering its popularity in Europe and America, soccer has an amusing origin. The earliest evidence of where it was first played initially as a sport was in the country of China. That was during the second and third centuries before Christ. The historians have found out that during the Han dynasty, people in China made leather balls and they started kicking it towards a net. Moreover, there are also facts that would point to Japan, specifically Kyoto. They also started kicking balls and later on became a famous sport. Facts revealed that the modernization of soccer started in Europe, specifically England. In medieval times, ill-practices like punching, biting, gouging and violent kicking are allowed. Their only aim is to deliver the ball to that certain spot. Ancient people grew fonder and fonder of this game and so they often stay on the field whole day long. Tracking back history, soldiers have admired this game so much that they often miss their practices in archery. To be very specific the time and place where soccer really started have not yet been certain. However, to be precise on the information, we can say that this sport has been played for over three (3) thousand years. The birth of modernized soccer should be credited to Great Britain. They have created an association where England and Scotland are co-founders. Furthermore, they have established a more systematic way of playing soccer. After The 18th Century- In the year 1815, there was a major growth and soccer became famous in colleges, universities and other schools. Eton College and English School came up with well defined rules it was later on referred to as “Cambridge Rules”. In relation to the latter, football was divided into two (2) groups, while some schools and colleges chose to adapt the Rugby rules and they allowed shin kicking, tripping and even carrying of the ball. These rules are strictly not allowed in the Cambridge rules. In 1863, modernized soccer was then established. October of 1863, there were eleven (11) representatives who came from schools and clubs of London. They held a meeting in a tavern and they set up fundamental rules to follow. These rules shall control matches among themselves. As a result of this meeting, a football association was formed and founded. December of the same year, Rugby football, which has a different set of rules, separated from the football association. Soccer’s foundation was firmly and officially established in 1869. The said association in football specifically prohibited any other handling of the ball. During the same century, soccer rapidly became well known. This is because soldiers, traders and British sailors introduced this sport in several parts of the world. Germans, Austrians, Italians drew towards Europe. However, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina have adopted soccer in South America. Later on, in 1904, FIFA was founded and established. During the 1930s, leagues from different countries sprouted. They started operating vastly worldwide. The first (1st) world cup was held in Uruguay, which was organized by FIFA. Soccer’s history has been full of development, events and its growth dispersed throughout the world.
Soccer has been modernized. It has developed rather than just originate at certain periods of time. This sport was vastly played by those youngsters from England and was then banned for its fierceness. The rules were lacking with sportsmanship before. In 1903, Chicago Tribune reported that there were 18 deaths in a row that season. Americans began to realize the rudeness Football had brought them, but still wanted to let its legacy stay. President Theodore Roosevelt pleaded to the public to provide the gear for the players for their safety’s sake because of the long list of injuries and deaths along the game. The avid Football fan urged many, especially the Colleges, to make radical changes to the rulebook just to keep the sport despite of its violence.
In 1906, the controversial year in Football history, the intercollegiate conference made changes to the rulebook dramatically. By 1907, deaths had sharply declined, which leads it records to be more similar to your generation’s game than its bloody, nerve-wrecking history.
When the new rules were promulgated, new equipment also came. They legalized the forward pass and a conference set was set in motion. A more conducive form of passing was created. After football was born, there were many changes throughout history. The game became more and more popular each time and it vastly spread all over the globe.
Leagues have sprouted in each country and even kids have been playing soccer. In some schools, scholarships are offered upon playing such game and many students would take this game seriously due to the fact that its the only reason why they can have the opportunity in going to school.
